Q: What is your favorite inspirational quote?
I don’t know the source, but my favorite quote is “You only fail when you stop trying” I even keep it on a little sign on my desk to keep it front and center so when I feel like giving up, I remind myself that trying is what really matters.
Q: What are your personal health and fitness goals?
My goals are to feel good about myself – physically, mentally, emotionally. I strive to be healthy as a whole person. It has taken me a long time, but I finally realized that to feel good about myself mentally, how I see myself, I need to feed my soul with the things that make me happy. That is why I work out, to address my physical health. I craft to feed my soul with creativity and the joy of making things. I strive for strength, both physical and mental, so that I can be the best me for my kids. I want to be a good example for them, but I also really want to be able to care for them with their special needs. I need to be strong so that I don’t hurt myself when I have to lift my son.
Q: What ONE thing keeps you most focused and motivated to continue to work hard to reach your goals?
It is really two things. Primarily it is the way I feel when I stick to the path and the plan that I made for myself to reach my goals and see the results or achieve a milestone. It feels so good to see the progress that I have made knowing that I did that (with help from the team at FabYOUlous fitness). I like the way I feel when I lift heavier weights, or add in a new challenge, and I like that I can eat that brownie or cookie for dinner because I totally earned it with my hard work, and I don’t feel guilty in eating it because it is a healthy choice because it brings me joy.
The other thing is knowing that my son will continue to get bigger (he has cerebral palsy) and his need for hands on care isn’t going to go away. I want to be able to safely care for him as long as possible.
Q: Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got started with us?
A few years ago, maybe 2019, I finally found that moment where I truly did not like myself and the way I looked and felt. I knew that I needed to make a change for me. I made some changes in the way I was eating and was able to lose about 60 pounds. But I knew what I was doing was not sustainable, so I started looking for the missing fitness piece. I did some googling and found FabYOUlous fitness. I started working with the app only, and getting in some work-outs at home. I started walking and really made some gains in my new fitness goals. Then the pandemic hit, I got pregnant and lost the baby late in the 2nd trimester. We moved to a new home and then our rainbow baby came. I stopped my workouts out of fear during that pregnancy but was able to get back into the swing of things after my recovery from my c-section. Now I prioritize my health and my goals, balanced with family time and time for me in my other joys like baking and crafting.
Q: How has FabYOUlous Fitness made a difference in your life?
The opportunity to have structured work-outs has been the game changer for me. I find that if I am left to my own devices the lack of knowing what to do keeps me from doing anything. My default would be to just go for a walk and that wasn’t giving me the strength training I crave.
The motivation and support of the trainer team has been invaluable, I love the sense of community that comes with working with the team.
The process has also allowed me to give myself permission to eat the things that make me happy, but not giving myself free-reign. I can eat that cookie for dinner every know and again because it makes me happy but I know that I also need to balance that with protein and vegetables and whole grains.
Q: What kinds of milestones have you accomplished and what specific results have you achieved so far?
My goal has been to get back into my size 12 pants, I was up to a size 16 after Sam was born. I purposely did not set a specific weight loss goal because I knew that building muscle would change how I looked and how much I weighed but I didn’t want to get hyper-focused on the numbers and lose my focus on the really goal: my health through the development of health habits.
I am soooo close to fitting into them again!
I have also built some noticeable muscle tone, which brings me joy 😊
I sleep better and feel the stress of life a little less, which is my ultimate goal.
I have also made the investment into heavier weights. I am up to 10 pounds as my light weights, and am using 15 pounds as my heavy weights but am ready to move up once I find a good deal on some heavier dumbbells.
Q: What is your “word” of the year?!
Challenge! Along with the mindset of tacking on the challenges set, however small they are.
Q. What made you decide to want to join FabYOUlous Fitness?
I liked the women only focus and the personal touch of the training team, as well as the balanced approach of addressing the health of the whole person, mind, body, and soul as a result of the first two.
Q. What kinds of results have you achieved so far?
I have lost a lot of inches, built some really nice muscle, and found a true passion for physical activity.
Q. What would you say to someone on the fence about making a change & committing to their goals?
Just give it a try, yes it will be hard but imagine how good it will feel when you try and succeed! No matter how small the gain it is still a win that will take you that one step closer to your goals. Plus it is kind of fun 😊
