Ever “waited” to try something until you felt more confident that you could actually do it?
Here’s the problem with that logic…
If you’ve ever read The Little Engine That Could, you might remember that in the beginning of the story, the train (who happens to talk!) doesn’t believe she can climb the hill in front of her.
But, she didn’t let that stop her.
Instead she told herself, “I think I can, I think I can,” … which turned into “I know I can, I know I can,” … and eventually the train made it to the top of the hill.
Do you know what powered that little engine up the hill?
It wasn’t confidence — it was something called SELF-EFFICACY.
And in most situations, self-efficacy is 10x more powerful than confidence.
While confidence implies a general sense of self-belief…
Self-efficacy is KNOWING that you can count on yourself when it counts — and that you can and will do your best no matter what.
It’s NOT expecting yourself to have all the answers all the time, but trusting yourself that you will find solutions when you need them (even if you’ve never done what you’re trying to do before!).
As you can imagine, if you have a strong sense of self-efficacy, you are more likely to win.
Here’s the BEST part: you can BUILD and DEVELOP self-efficacy.
The way to do it?
Set a goal. And then follow through, NO MATTER WHAT.
Even on days you don’t feel like it. Even when you might feel unsure what to do next.
The whole point is to challenge and push yourself out of your comfort zone.
All you have to do is decide… and then keep deciding.
You’ll be amazed at what you will accomplish.
Make it a great day,
