Why YOU need to get comfortable being uncomfortable NOW

I’m sure most of us have heard the following phrase…

"In order to grow, you must become comfortable with being uncomfortable.”

The bigger question is, do you really know what it means? Have you experienced that feeling of being uncomfortable and then just sat with it? Or do you feel that feeling but then retreat back into your safe zone?

I had a very vivid experience a few weeks back with this. In an effort to best serve my clients and to reach new clients, I’m always learning. I’m part of a business mastermind group that meets once a month, and during last month’s meeting, a book called, “Captivology” was suggested. The book goes over the science of captivation triggers and capturing and retaining the attention of friends, family, customers, etc.

As soon as the summary of this book was suggested, I felt a pit in my stomach. I immediately thought to myself, “But I’m an introvert and don’t like the attention to be on ME. That’s the last thing that I want!” That being said, I want to grow my business and reach, help, and empower as many women as I can. Can you see my conundrum?

The more I sat and thought about this on the way home from my meeting, the more uncomfortable I became. How was I going to push past this obstacle? What about this was making me so uncomfortable? It was then that it all became very clear…

I was growing.

In order to grow, you must become comfortable with being uncomfortable.

As it became clear to me that what was happening was a very necessary part of my growth, I began to become a little more comfortable with being uncomfortable. I realized that what I was feeling was a totally normal part of growth and that’s what I wanted, right? Right!

In the past, I’ve been much more likely to retreat back to my comfort zone. I’ve had some big ideas, but executing them takes an awful lot of being uncomfortable.

So I’ll start small…I’ll finish listening to Captivology. Once I finish that, I’ll continue to take those steps that make me uncomfortable, sit with the feeling, do it anyway, and grow right through it!
