Client Spotlight on Susie:

From surviving breast cancer—twice—to thriving in her 50s, she’s proof that strength isn’t just physical, it’s deeply personal. A devoted mom of four (plus a big pup and two cats), she’s turned her health challenges into fuel for growth, resilience, and inspiration. Today, she’s not only rebuilding muscle and confidence with FabYOUlous Fitness, but also showing us all what it looks like to live with courage, purpose, and a whole lot of heart.

Q: What is your favorite inspirational quote?

"And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music"

Q: What are your personal health and fitness goals?

Being a 2 time breast cancer survivor, I am always looking to improve my health. I also have osteopenia so I want to improve my bone density and muscle mass. WOrking with Sheri I have realized how much I love getting stronger and working out with a personal trainer.

Q: What ONE thing keeps you most focused and motivated to continue to work hard to reach your goals?

I want to be strong and be able to care for myself as I age. I am 55 years old and I see how many people are aging. I want to be in the gym at 80, not a nursing home.

Q: Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got started with us?

I am a married mother of 4, a 120 rotty and 2 feral cats. And on New Year’s Eve 2004, I woke up and found a lump under my arm and at that moment I knew my life had changed forever.  At the time I had three children 4 and under, the youngest being 3 months old.  My husband was working 60 hours a week so I could be a stay at home mom and this health crisis put a strain on our situation.  Luckily, we made it through 2 bouts of breast cancer in 4 years and are stronger for it.

As a result of this health crisis, I became interested in learning about health & wellness.  How can I possibly prevent this from happening again?  How can I teach my children, my husband, my family and friends to be preventative?  What could I do to help myself and serve others? Thus, I became a health coach through the Institute of Integrative Nutrition, I got certified in Reiki and Access Bars energy work, became an Aromatouch Instructor and continually try to learn about wellness products and services so that I may be a resource for others looking for solutions. Because of many surgeries and non-existent hormones, I realized I needed to work on my physical body to be stronger for longevity. I want to live well for a long time (to 100 years at least LOL). I was telling Shauna my chiropractor about this and she suggested I try FabYoulous Fitness. I walked in and instantly felt welcomed and at home and the rest is history.

Q: How has FabYOUlous Fitness made a difference in your life?

I am physically and mentally stronger and more confident in my personal and professional life.

Q: What kinds of milestones have you accomplished and what specific results have you achieved so far?

I can dead hang for 1 minute, I can now chest press 45 lbs and deadlift 50 lbs. I think I did a row at 110 but it might be 100. I will have to ask Sheri:) I can see definition in my arms, shoulders and legs. All very exciting and look forward to more accomplishments in the future!

Q: What is your “word” of the year?!

Because I turned 55, I chose 5 words that start with F:)

Fun
Flourish
Fearless
Fitness
Flow

Q: What made you decide to want to join FabYOUlous Fitness?

I interviewed with Kim and met Sheri and knew that this gym was a good fit with women who cared about other women and lifted them up. I like that it is an all woman gym and focuses on older women and menopause. I also have known Steph for years and know she would align herself with quality women.

Q: What kinds of results have you achieved so far?

Because of surgeries I have had I sloughed quite a bit and now that I have worked on my back muscles, I stand up straight and also my mid and lower back pain is gone. Such a win! I also have more muscle definition and have gained muscle mass which I am loving. My core is stronger too!

Q: What would you say to someone on the fence about making a change & committing to their goals?

It can be tough to make a change but it is so worth it! Have an accountability partner whether that is a trainer, coach or friend. Once you start you will not want to stop because you will feel better, feel stronger and have more confidence in all aspects of your life. Getting healthy gives you the freedom to live your best and amazing life!
